Overview

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most rewarding off-the-beaten-path adventures, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and high Himalayan adventure. This trek takes you through the heart of the Manaslu Conservation Area, leading up to the base of Mount Manaslu (8,156m/26,759ft) — the eighth-highest mountain in the world, also affectionately known as the “Japanese Mountain.” Compared to the popular Annapurna and Everest regions, the Manaslu trail is far less crowded, providing a serene and authentic trekking experience for those seeking solitude and connection with nature.

Starting with a scenic overland drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola, the journey follows the beautiful Budhi Gandaki Valley, climbing through terraced fields, subtropical forests, and traditional villages. Along the way, trekkers are immersed in the culture of Tibetan and Gurung communities, where centuries-old monasteries, mani walls, and spiritual caves reflect deep-rooted Buddhist traditions with a touch of Hindu influence on the lower slopes. The route showcases breathtaking views of majestic peaks including Manaslu Himal, Siringi Himal, Naike Peak, Himlung, Gyaji Kang, and even Annapurna II, making each day a visual treat.

One of the highlights of the trek is crossing the dramatic Larkya La Pass (5,160m/16,930ft), a thrilling high-altitude challenge that rewards trekkers with panoramic views of surrounding snow-capped giants. The conservation area also boasts a rich variety of flora and fauna, including elusive wildlife such as the Snow Leopard, Blue Sheep, Musk Deer, and Himalayan Tahr. Trekkers will also witness glacier vistas from Punggen, Larkya, Ponkar, Hinang, and Kechakyu glaciers, and walk through forests of rhododendron and oak, all while experiencing the traditional Himalayan lifestyle.

The Manaslu Circuit is classified as a moderately challenging trek, suitable for those with good fitness and a positive mindset. While no technical climbing skills are needed, all foreign trekkers are required to have a registered Nepali guide or porter, as the route lies within a restricted area that has only been open to international trekkers since 1991. The trail remains open throughout the year, but the best seasons to trek are March to May and September to December when the weather is most favorable.

This journey is a complete overland experience with no domestic flights involved. If our suggested itinerary doesn’t match your needs, we offer fully customizable trekking packages with special group discounts. Whether you’re trekking solo, with friends, or in a group, Feel Everest is here to help you plan your perfect Himalayan adventure.
